Pacific Grove Triathlon Race Report

The week of the triathlon can easily be described as one of the best weeks of my life.  The week started off with a best of show and a 2nd place for homebrewed beer at the Monterey County Fair. Our first child, Colin Matthew Mehle, was born on September 5th and the week ended with a great first triathlon. You don't really need a 'taper'(cut back on training) week leading up to race day for sprint triathlons like you would for a marathon.  That being said, I was planning on taking it 'easy' the week prior to the tri with some workouts, but more importantly work on and practice my transitions (taking off the wetsuit and putting on cycling clothes or running clothes).  Need less to that didn't happen with Colin's early arrival.  Not to worry, since I received lots of great tips from my buddy Chris who is a total pro.  I also read tons of race reports and tips from bloggers online on what to expect.  Obviously Kate was going to my first triathlon, (for a great reason :) ), but I had two co-workers come out to cheer me on, thanks Steve and Christine(thanks for the post race pumpkin treats).  Steve by the way is a great photographer and took amazing pictures of me during the race, even better pictures than the official race photos.  The entire triathlon was streamed live on the internet so Kate got to watch me cross the finish line while at the hospital, which was pretty cool.
